Outlines eligibility criteria necessary for Alaska nursing assistant certification

This section explains about the eligibility criteria of one who wants to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in Alaska.

Eligibility for Employment as a CNA

In order to be a CNA in Alaska, you must have been issued a CNA certification by the Alaska State Board of Nursing.

Eligibility for NNAAP® Testing

As a test candidate, you will be categorized into one of six eligibilities or categories.

Note: All candidates applying to take the NNAAP® Examination in Alaska must complete the following documentation prior to approval of the online testing application. 

You must complete Form 08-4069 (Certified Nurse Aide by Examination Application) or Form 08-4365 (Reinstatement of Nurse Aide Certification Application) depending on which applies to you.

Eligibility Route

E1 – New Nurse Aide

For uncertified applicants who have completed a state approved training program within 2 years of course completion date of a state approved certified nurse aide training program with a minimum of 140 hours of training that includes a minimum of 60 hours of classroom instruction and 80 hours of clinical/skills.

E2- Reinstatement

Required for all applicants that did not work as a CNA during the renewal period and/or did not complete the required continuing education hours and now need to retake the CNA competency evaluation.

E3- Equivalency Training

- For candidates with successful completion not earlier 3 than two years immediately before the date of the completed application, of one year or more of nursing education that includes both clinical and classroom instruction in nursing fundamentals from a nursing school approved by a state or territory of the United States or by a province or territory of Canada.

E4- Military Training

Applicants with successful completion, not earlier than five years immediately before the date of the completed application, of a United States corpsman or medic training program and service in the United States military forces as a corpsman or medic not earlier than five years immediately before the date of application.

E5 -Out of Country

Applicants with successful completion of a nursing training program in a foreign country other than Canada. Applicants must submit transcripts accompanied by certified English translations if the original documents are not in English.

E6 - Current or Expired Nursing License

Applicants with a current or lapsed nursing license issued by a state or territory of the United States or a province or territory of Canada.
